Assembly Table: The Service Vicinal Map
Assembly Table: The Vicinal Service Map
The Vicinal Service map was produced under the impetus of the Ministries of the Interior and Public Works to overcome the limitations of the General Staff map. Thanks to a smaller scale and the use of colours, the Vicinal Service map of France gives a very beautiful vision of France at the end of the 19th century.
Characteristics of the assembly table of the Vicinal Service map
- The General Staff map is made up of 587 sheets.
- The sheets are numbered according to their position on the assembly table by the number of their column (from II to XXXI) and their row (from 4 to 43). For example, the map of Cherbourg is numbered IX-10.

- The Vicinal Service map was produced at a scale of 1:100,000
