Antique maps of Morocco and Africa - European perspectives on a territory in motion

Heure Bleue Palais, Essaouira, Morocco - Winter 2026

From February 1st to 25th, 2026, Votre Carte Ancienne set up shop in Essaouira, within the prestigious Heure Bleue Palais (Relais & Châteaux).

Titled “European perspectives on a territory in motion,” this exhibition unveiled an exclusive selection of 10 rare and original maps of Morocco and the African continent, spanning four centuries of history, from the 17th to the 20th century.

Through the works of master cartographers such as Willem Blaeu, Gerard Mercator, Rigobert Bonne, or Victor Levasseur, the journey highlighted the evolution of geographical knowledge and representations: from the scholarly tracings of the Dutch Golden Age to the hydrographic rigor of the Enlightenment, up to the illustrated travel posters of the 1960s.

Much more than mere decorative objects, these maps bear witness to the exchanges, maritime ambitions, and imaginations of bygone eras. A beautiful immersion at the crossroads of history, art, and travel.
