This illustrated poster of North America, titled "American Folklore & Legends," was created by John Dukes McKee. The map is a cheerful and detailed depiction of mythical, legendary, and historical figures from American history and folklore. Against a green background representing land and blue for the seas and Great Lakes, a multitude of famous figures are depicted, each positioned geographically according to the locations associated with their stories or legends. Among the many figures are Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, Johnny Appleseed, Davy Crockett, Pecos Bill, Billy the Kid, John Henry, Casey Jones, Tom Sawyer, Calamity Jane, Buffalo Bill, Pocahontas, Captain Kidd, and many others. The illustration is rich in color and action, blending real history with myths and folktales in a lively and educational way. The style is typical of children's or educational illustrations of the time, combining humor with geographical and cultural information. The map is published by CS Hammond and Company. The map measures 62 cm by 91 cm.
