This antique planisphere is an advertising map created for the "Grand Concours du Chocolat Menier." It is a richly colored and illustrated work that depicts the continents on an ochre background and the oceans in a deep blue. The map is crossed by a red line that traces a route across the globe, connecting numerous cities. Each region is embellished with naive drawings representing local fauna (elephants, giraffes in Africa, polar bears in the north), people in traditional dress, ships, airplanes, as well as fantastical sea creatures such as a large octopus and sea serpents. In the center, a large compass rose bears the logo "Offered by Chocolat Menier." Specific inserts highlight regions such as Israel and Tibet. The map measures 112 cm by 60 cm.
