Vintage Pictorial Map of the World and its Animals - Japanese Map from 1936

This Japanese map is an illustrated planisphere of the distribution of animals in the world, dating from 1936 (year 11 of the Shōwa era), as indicated in the margin. Published as a supplement to a children's magazine, it features a pictorial, colorful, and naive style. Against a background of yellow continents and blue oceans, the map is densely populated with drawings of animals typical of each region: elephants and giraffes in Africa, bison and eagles in America, tigers and pandas in Asia. There are also illustrations of peoples in their traditional dress (Native Americans, Inuit, etc.) as well as flags of certain countries. All text and legends are in Japanese. The map measures 36 cm by 38.5 cm.
