Pictorial maps

Selected by Mathieu of Mapmapnmap, this collection highlights a particularly creative style of maps: the pictorial map. Here, the map is above all a work of art, where the illustrator's pencil stroke makes all the difference. You'll find everything from colorful and cheerful tourist maps to planispheres rich in symbols and details!

Immerse yourself in the world of vintage pictorial maps, true witnesses to an era when illustration and cartography intertwined. Whether tourist, decorative, road maps, or the work of great illustrators like Lucien Boucher, these maps offer a unique perspective on the representation of France and the world in the 20th century. Each hand-drawn detail tells a story: stylized landscapes, iconic monuments, burgeoning road networks, and exotic destinations highlighted to entice travelers.

These pictorial maps, halfway between works of art and practical tools, appeal today to collectors and illustration enthusiasts for their graphic richness and retro charm. They interact with other cartographic treasures: antique maps of France, maps of Europe, city maps, or even antique world maps that you can find in our collections.
